Hi there,
Can I ask you something?
What's the very first thing you do in the morning?
For a lot of people over 50, the first hour of the day is a rush — coffee, phone, obligations — and somewhere in that blur, breakfast either gets skipped or grabbed without much thought.
But here's what I've learned, both personally and through working with clients: how you start your morning has a profound effect on how you feel for the rest of the day.
Your body wakes up in a mild state of dehydration and with blood sugar at its lowest point. What you do in that first hour either sets you up for steady, sustained energy — or that familiar rollercoaster of highs and crashes that leaves you exhausted by afternoon.
A few simple morning habits that make a real difference:
Start with water before coffee. Just one full glass before anything else. Your body needs it after hours without hydration and it makes more of a difference than most people expect.
Eat a real breakfast with protein. Something like oatmeal, plain yogurt, nut butter on whole grain toast, or a smoothie with protein. Protein in the morning stabilizes your blood sugar and keeps your energy steady for hours.
Give yourself 10 quiet minutes. Before the noise of the day begins. Even just sitting with your tea or coffee without your phone. This small act of calm sets a completely different tone.
None of this takes a lot of time. But done consistently, it changes how you feel — day after day.
This week, try just one of these. See what shifts.
To your health,
Sonia
